ontemporary Artist Lisa Powers, resides in British Columbia where she continues to study art and society while implementing her creative skills in many forms such as painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. Her inspiration comes from many things: love, life, fashion and culture, to name a few. Mainly self taught (she started oil painting at the age of ten) and later attending Kwantlen University College to obtain her Associate of Fine Arts degree, she made a decision to become a career Artist. Her earliest creative influence was that of Norman Rockwell with his humorous, detailed paintings that captured her imagination as a young child. Later influences such as Impressionist painters Auguste Renoire, Edgar Degas and especially Edouard Manet captivated Lisa with their portrayals of everday people and their lives. Her passion for understanding people and the world around her has led Lisa to studies in Psychology and Sociology where her interests in current trends and societal norms are portrayed in her work. Post-Impressionist Vincent van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's lithographic posters and the Pop Art of Roy Lichtenstein reflect her style today. Her use of mixed media, which often include photographic imagery, and bold strokes of colour create a contemporary snapshot into her world as an Artist and observer of people.
